Ammonia losses estimated by an open collector from urea applied to sugarcane straw Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Mariano,Eduardo; Trivelin,Paulo Cesar Ocheuze; Vieira,Michele Xavier; Leite,José Marcos; Otto,Rafael; Franco,Henrique Coutinho Junqueira.
The quantification of ammonia (NH3) losses from sugarcane straw fertilized with urea can be performed with collectors that recover the NH3 in acid-treated absorbers. Thus, the use of an open NH3 collector with a polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE)-wrapped absorber is an interesting option since its cost is low, handling easy and microclimatic conditions irrelevant. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficiency of an open collector for quantifying NH3-N volatilized from urea applied over the sugarcane straw. The experiment was carried out in a sugarcane field located near Piracicaba, São Paulo, Brazil. The NH3-N losses were estimated using a semi-open static collector calibrated with 15N (reference method) and an open collector with an absorber wrapped in...

Dynamics of Clomazone Formulations Under Different Applications Conditions Planta Daninha
TROPALDI,L.; BRITO,I.P.F.S.; DIAS,R.C.; TRINDADE,M.L.B.; CARBONARI,C.A.; VELINI,E.D..
ABSTRACT: Maintenance of straw on the soil surface in sugarcane production areas can influence weed occurrence and herbicide dynamics. After application, considerable losses of clomazone can occur as a result of its physicochemical characteristics. For this reason, novel formulations have been developed. In addition to the conventional formulation, microencapsulated formulations are currently available. Thus, the aim of this study was to observe and compare the effect of clomazone formulations under different application conditions. For this purpose, the experiment was carried with 12 treatments in a completely randomized design, with four replications, using clomazone formulations (1,200 g a.i. ha-1), on soils with different moisture levels, in the...

Fate of 15N-urea applied to wheat-soybean succession crop Bragantia
Boaretto,Antonio Enedi; Spolidorio,Eduardo Scarpari; Freitas,José Guilherme de; Trivelin,Paulo Cesar Ocheuze; Muraoka,Takashi; Cantarella,Heitor.
The wheat crop in São Paulo State, Brazil, is fertilized with N, P and K. The rate of applied N (0 to 120 kg.ha-1) depends on the previous grown crop and the irrigation possibility. The response of wheat to rates and time of N application and the fate of N applied to irrigated wheat were studied during two years. Residual N recovery by soybean grown after the wheat was also studied. The maximum grain productivity was obtained with 92 kg.ha-1 of N. The efficiency of 15N-urea utilization ranged from 52% to 85%. The main loss of applied 15N, 5% to 12% occurred as ammonia volatilized from urea applied on soil surface. The N loss by leaching even at the N rate of 135 kg.ha-1, was less than 1% of applied 15N, due to the low amount of rainfall during the wheat...

Fate of allelochemicals in the soil Ciência Rural
Vidal,Ribas Antonio; Bauman,Thomas Trost.
Allelochemicals are compounds released by one plant or plant residues that may have a negative or positive effect on other plant. The importance of allelopathy was extensively explored during the past three decades, with the work concentrating in the extraction and identification of the chemicals, and demonstration of activity in petry dish experiments. These compounds interact in the soil environment similarly as herbicides and are subject to processes of degradation such as microbial degradation, oxidation, and photolysis, and processes of removal or transfer, such as volatilization and adsorption. The objective of this review was to access the fate of allelochemicals in the soil environment to help to find strategies to increase its activity. The...

Loss of ammonia from nitrogen fertilizers applied to maize and soybean straw Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Faria,Letícia de Abreu; Nascimento,Carlos Antonio Costa do; Vitti,Godofredo Cesar; Luz,Pedro Henrique de Cerqueira; Guedes,Elaine Maria Silva.
In Brazilian agriculture, urea is the most commonly used nitrogen (N) source, in spite of having the disadvantage of losing considerable amounts of N by ammonia-N volatilization. The objectives of this study were to evaluate: N lossby ammonia volatilization from: [urea coated with copper sulfate and boric acid], [urea coated with zeolite], [urea+ammonium sulfate], [urea coated with copper sulfate and boric acid+ammonium sulfate], [common urea] and [ammonium nitrate]; and the effect of these N source son the maize yield in terms of amount and quality. The treatments were applied to the surface of a soil under no-tillage maize, in two growing seasons. The first season (2009/2010) was after a maize crop (maize straw left on the soil surface) and the second...

Measurement of volatilized mercury by a mini-system: a simple, reliable and reproducible technique BABT
Cursino,Luciana; Mattos,Silvânia V. M.; Silva,Nilton O.; Chartone-Souza,Edmar; Nascimento,Andréa M. A..
A simple and easy new technique for volatilized mercury determination in biological systems was developed. This technique is fast and sensitive and can overcome the problems that arise due to the extremely low readings during the measurements and reproducibility in biological material (bacteria). It measures directly the volatilized metallic mercury of bacteria by means of a chemical adsorbent in a coupled mini-system, as a modified technique for mercury in air analysis. It is potentially of interest to the bioremediation and bacterial mercury resistance communities

Urea coated with poultry litter as an option in the control of nitrogen losses AGRIAMBI
Dall’Orsoletta,Daniel J.; Rauber,Luiz P.; Schmitt,Djalma E.; Gatiboni,Luciano C.; Orsolin,Jhonatan.
ABSTRACT The volatilization of ammonia (NH3) and nitrate leaching (NH3-) are the main processes of nitrogen (N) loss in the soil. The objective of the study was to evaluate N losses by NH3 volatilization and mineral N transformations in the soil with urea coated with poultry litter (urea + litter) compared with other sources of N, under two moisture conditions. The experiment was conducted in a controlled environment with a 5 x 2 factorial arrangement with four replicates, five N sources (urea, SuperN®, Kimcoat®, urea + litter and control without fertilizer) and two moisture contents [80 and 100% of field capacity (FC)]. The total volatilized NH3 did not differ between the sources, regardless of the soil moisture condition, ranging from 10.8 to 13.2% of...

Volatility of Different Formulations of Clomazone Herbicide Planta Daninha
Schreiber,F.; Avila,L.A.; Scherner,A.; Gehrke,V.R.; Agostinetto,D..
Volatilization represents an important process in the displacement of pesticides for the environment. The physicochemical properties of the clomazone molecule indicate its relative volatility. Therefore, this study was carried out to assess the volatilization of different clomazone herbicide formulations using bioindicator species. To that end, airtight glass boxes were used with the presence of different clomazone formulations and plant species. The formulations used were Gamit 360 CS(r), Gamit 500 EC(r) and Gamit Star(r). The plant species assessed were maize, sorghum and rice. With the results obtained it is possible to conclude that, among the formulations, Gamit 360 CS(r) has caused less phytotoxicity to the bioindicator species in comparison to the...
